Some very good and unique information in this book. In the exhibition chapters some stories are very interesting, some are not so much, so it took effort to read through some of them.

The photographic advice is very good and is mainly, but not always in the non-exhibition chapters. Some of the topics that stood out as very useful to me: how to get steady shots with the camera and slow shutter speeds without a tripod multiple techniques , very detailed information about the light what makes it blue, what makes it red, how humidity or dust affects it, etc.

I'm giving 4 stars only because some of the stories in the exhibition chapters I did not find interesting, the photographic advice in the book is excellent. Paperback in English - 10 Anv edition. Beautiful pictures. Specific prose passages are for specific pictures. I didn't read that much of the text - yet. Sep 01, Becca rated it it was amazing.

This is my current favorite. Galen Rowell's pictures are amazing major understatement. His writings of how he had the forsight to capture each picture makes for an inspiring, great read. He was an athlete and had a scientists mind - The book cover great adventures and he copiously notes the settings and equipment he used for each picture.

Nov 10, Josh rated it really liked it Recommends it for: photographers. One of the most important things I took away from Rowell's book is his devotion to capturing images because they work for him emotionally, rather than simply shooting pictures that are technically well done yet lack a spark. It has changed the way I shoot; taking more time to really focus on why I'm capturing a moment.

A must-read if you're a photographer or at least interested. Aug 28, Bastian rated it it was amazing.
